As an entrepreneur in tech or online marketing, you understand the value of hard work and perseverance. However, sometimes that drive can come at a cost, leading to physical and emotional pain that can be difficult to manage. That's why embarking on a journey towards better mental health is crucial for achieving success and maintaining a fulfilling life.

Mental Health For Tech Entrepreneurs

Mental health journeys are tough, and it's important to acknowledge that from the outset. Despite the multitude of resources available to us, there's no magic solution that can solve all our problems in one fell swoop. However, by becoming stronger day by day, we can start to see the possibility of hope. But before we can achieve this, we must first confront the pain that often comes with both physical and emotional struggles. It's worth noting that these two are intricately connected.

Pain: What It Does to Your Mind and Body

Chronic pain is something that many of us deal with, whether it be from a specific condition or simply the aches and pains of daily life. As someone with osteoarthritis in my foot, a degenerative disease that affects my big toe joint, I know firsthand the effect of chronic pain on a person. However, I've found that a combination of mindfulness and physical self-care can help alleviate my symptoms.

Managing Pain with Mindfulness and Physical Self-Care

When you're living with pain, it's impossible to ignore it. Instead, you must welcome it into your life as though it were a family member. Accept it, own it, and embrace it, because it's a part of you. By doing so, you can begin to take steps towards managing it. For me, this includes starting each day with a positive podcast, meditation, eating a a natural diet, going for daily workouts, including, and daily stretches and foam rolling. I also turn off the news and listen to positive music, take herbal supplements, and surround myself with love and support.

Building a self-care arsenal is crucial when it comes to managing pain. There will be days when our usual tools just won't cut it, and that's okay. For me, technology has been a valuable resource in calming my mind. I've tried numerous meditation apps and while I'm not a perfect meditator, I've found that focusing on “letting go” can help ground me for the moments of anxiety or stress I face.

Other tools that I use on a daily basis include various physical aids like foam rollers, acupressure mats, resistance bands, balance discs, hot water baths, massage treatments, and cupping therapy. I also turn to herbal supplements and foods like organic meat and vegetables, collagen, and green tea.

Coping with Trauma and Achieving Post-Traumatic Growth

Of course, even with all of these tools at our disposal, life has a way of throwing us curveballs. Trauma can be incredibly difficult to deal with, and it's not something that can be easily managed with a quick fix. However, with the help of our self-care routines and support systems, we can build resilience and learn to cope with even the most challenging of situations.

It's important to remember that growth can come from even the most difficult of experiences. Instead of viewing traumas as a disorder, we can begin to see them as opportunities for post-traumatic growth. Accepting what has happened to us and embracing the new version of ourselves that has emerged as a result can be challenging, but it's an essential step towards healing.

In the end, it's important to be kind to ourselves as we navigate the ups and downs of our mental health journeys. There's no end goal or perfect solution that we're striving towards; rather, it's a process of constant self-improvement. Emotions like doubt and worry may still crop up, but we can learn to manage them and prioritize our mental well-being above all else.

The Importance of Prioritizing Mental Health and Building Healthy Habits

Self-care is a long-term commitment. We must continue to prioritize our mental health and build healthy habits in order to maintain our pain levels and build resilience. By doing so, we can achieve post-traumatic growth and emerge from our struggles stronger than ever before.

Fighting Stigma - Addressing Mental Health for Tech Entrepreneurs

So starting an agency or online business from scratch can be exhilarating, risky, exhausting — sometimes all at the same time. Hubspot surveyed more than 300 entrepreneurs on the state of their mental health, and a whopping 63% reported dealing with burnout and 59% dealing with anxiety.

Even with hundreds of founders reporting on their own experiences, 81% of readers said there is still stigma around mental health in the business community — with 51% of whom responding that while the stigma does exist, it’s getting better.

Though not every founder will devote his or her entire company to mental health, many said they’re making a conscious effort to include and prioritize mental health support in their companies — a step in the right direction.

Summary
